Not art related…necessarily

So yesterday (April 29th) something big happened. I know that was a corny line but its something along the lines of Jackie Robinson, but not really. The first gay male professional athlete “came out of the closet” yesterday. He announced to Sports Illustrated that he is gay. He said it like this: ”

“I’m a 34-year-old NBA center. I’m black. And I’m gay.”

Personally, I don’t have an issue with this, but i know there is always the other side. I hope that this triggers and speeds up equal rights for everyone. Nobody should deny anybody the right to live their life the way they want to. It had me thinking how powerful sports can be for important social issues. Do you think Art could be as effective? Is it already?
