Processed with VSCOcam with t1 preset

Along with the appearance and development of the new media technology, the form of books and people’s reading habits are undergoing tremendous change. These are forcing traditional book publishers to make reform and innovate, book designer is no exception.

When you get a book in the first sight, book designer is always your first encounter and at the same time, is the most easily overlooked creator. However, book designers happens to be the one who understand the intention and style of the author and also familiar with the reader’s reading expectation. They have to combine the technology of publishers and the aesthetics of artists to serve as a foil to the internal texture and the external beauty of a book.

As a book designer, you need to respect the books themselves and moderately be “hidden”, that is not “excessive design” to make the design arrogate the contents of the books.

Great post! I agree that the designer must be “hidden”. Essentially good design is very subtle and successful in communicating its message. Although technology is advancing, there is still a strong following of tangible books. This will maintain the demand for great book designers.
