Natural Hair

Before I start, I realize not everyone knows what natural hair is. In my definition, natural hair is no longer using a relaxer (a chemical straightener), heat, and any product that uses non-natural ingredients (like parabens and sulfates).

The photo I’m using below is essentially an aspect of what natural hair is: Free, has kinks, curls, and coils, and BIG (depending on your hair type).

Since I’ve decided to have natural hair (and it’s been a year now) I’ve realized something I’ve thought about BEFORE I went natural: “How am I supposed to do my hair if it’s not straight? It will look messy without it!” THEN it became:”Gee, I hope my hair is 3C or at least 4A. Those patterns look super nice!” Now, I’m realizing I wasn’t ready to accept my hair or love my hair if it wasn’t these specific types.

Here’s a chart for you guys:

I was acting prejudice against my hair and my genes. After my hair became fully natural, I learned to LOVE every kink and curl in my head and I stopped caring about what type favors more over the other or why my hair doesn’t look like some other YouTuber’s natural hair. ALL natural hair is beautiful! Embrace what makes you, YOU.

In relation, I also love seeing animated shows and movies that include people with natural hair.

Here’s Garnet:

And here’s Tip from Home (movie):

And Merida from Brave:

I love the fact that character designers are taking the time to create characters that don’t have straight hair, and present it in a positive way for other to relate to in one way or another.

What do you guys think about seeing characters with curly hair or an awesome ‘fro?

This is awesome! I agree that it is great to see more natural hairstyles in cartoons and movies instead of the perfectly straight or curled with a hot iron by a professional hairdresser style. I have felt this pain too. Though my hair isn’t really that curly, it’s simply BIG and sometimes a pain. But it’s good to just accept it, it is just as beautiful.

Pixar’s Monster’s Inc. was the the first animation movie that had real life fur into animation movies. I am glad that the animation studios have been polishing and refining their techniques with different hair styles. I always hated my curly hair, later on I learn to love it. Thanks for all useful fact of curly hair in different styles.
