Some Album Cover Art

You’ve most likely heard of the recording artist, Hozier, due to his hit single “Take Me To Church.” But, many people do not know much about the art on his album cover. When I started listening to Hozier, this was one of the first things I noticed. His album covers were painted by his mother, Raine Hozier-Byrne, and were created for specifically for the music. So, why are all the faces missing? Hozier said that that aspect of the artwork goes along with the meaning of the music. As a fan of the artwork, it made me ask why an upcoming recording artist wouldn’t want to have his own face on his debut album. At first, it sort of frustrated me, but then I realized that that may be why I love it. It allows him to remain sort of anonymous in the music, leaving the listener to be alone with the lyrics and the rhythm.  Raine Hozier-Byrne is certainly talented, and I wish I owned some of her paintings.
