K-9 Lifesavers

The first and only piece I’ve done for a client was for K-9 Lifesavers, a local dog adoption center whom at the time needed a logo reinvention. Their previous logo had a cartoon dog within a lifesaver, which was too literal for my tastes. When designing the logo I had this idea of a paw reaching up towards a helping human hand. I decided to limit the logo to one or two colors, so as to not distract from the design. That idea quickly disappeared as K-9 Lifesavers needed it in black and white.

So adhering to these limitations I tried many variations of the logo which had to include the paw, the hand, and the logo. After much stress and design block, I called on one of my fellow design friends whom opinion I trust, and together we decided that using the negative space in the “K” we could fit the hand and paw. After many drafts and emails between K-9 Lifesavers we were able to refine the logo to one they and I were both happy with. It was a tremendous learning experience and the critiques from both my client and my friends were invaluable.

(Logo was completely done in illustrator, I used a serif font)
