The New Disney Posters

The recent posters for the new Disney movies haven’t been like anything they’ve done before. Disney is making live-action movies of old movies they did years ago. Some movies coming out are Aladdin, The Lion King, and Toy Story 4. Toy Story 4 isn’t a live action movie and it’s not a remake but it’s poster follows the same idea as the other movies mentioned. The designer or designers of these posters have totally gotten rid of words. The titles aren’t even on the poster. They’ve done this because these iconic movies can be recognized just by distinguished attributes. For example, the Aladdin poster is just the genies lamps with the purple that Aladdin wears in the old animated movie. The only typography used in this poster is the month that the movie is hitting theaters. By just using these significant features from the older movie, it draws the now grown up crowd to the movie as well as children because of the nostalgia from when the now adults were kids and the fact that it already is a kid’s movie. The Lion King also does this by just having young Simba in the live action form.

The poster for Toy Story 4 is doing the same thing since it just has one of the well-known characters from the previous movies on a plain background with the month and year the movie is going to be in theaters. These posters are very minimalistic but get the message across and is nice to look at. Disney should do this for more of their posters in the future because it’s very simplistic and alluring.

    It’s pretty cool that Disney has the ability to make posters like this since their movies are so well-known. Posters like this definitely help to intrigue both fans and people who may not be previously aware of the movies (like younger kids).

    I agree, the posters Disney is creating are not catered towards a younger audience like they have in the past, rather, they now shifted to a much older and sophisticated audience. I would argue that this shift in targeting by Disney goes beyond just posters.

    These posters are more interesting to look at and it gives the general feel of what the audience might expect how the movie will be. Though, I wouldn’t exactly say that Disney should continue to make posters like this for many of their future projects as the poster should give the feel of what the movie should be about. Some, yes! That would be great because I do enjoy looking at these types of posters. But not all or even most, because they should still target younger kids. Great post! (I honestly wasn’t even aware the posters look like this!)

    I really like the aesthetic Disney went with these posters. I do have to agree with one of the comments that Disney should still target the younger audience.
