Imma let you finish but…

Kanye West has become a poster-boy for controversy in the celebrity world in recent years. His Taylor Swift bash on the 2009 MTV Video Music Awardssparked huge internet buzz as tons of people remixed the incident through images and video. There is even and “Ima let you finish” website. Some have even taken it further with “viral video” and turning the incident and Kanye’s artistic style (auto-tuning) into a joke. So, when I saw a Kanye inspired artwork on Rhizome (a leading new media art website brought to you by The New Museum) I had to check it out. F.A.T. – Free Art and Technology created an “Imma Let You Finish But…” website bookmarklet.
I feel that it is always a questionable situation when you ask what defines art. However I found myself asking myself this question looking through F.A.T.’spage. Is that art? If yes then do we now have to call everyone who used MS Paint to create a silly “ima let you finish” image an artist?

You are extremely vague on your notion of “art”. What “art” are you referring to? Fine art? Visual art? Performance art? It is easy to criticize and judge unconventional art, dismissing it because it does not fit the common idea of “art”. Are you willing to elaborate on your (bogus) statement?

hopefully this is on a related note, but I once saw a designer’s webpage that was done entirely in Microsoft Paint. It looked like he had commissioned a 6 year old to draw it, but I think the fact that it was an intentional comedic decision made me wonder what his professional work would look like. I can’t remember his name right now but his website was as good as MS Paint would allow.
