As a graphic designer we realize how important an ad of logo can be for a successful campaign. This is especially true in the ad campaigns of for the U.S. presidential race. A slide show in The New York Times, “Reading Tea Leaves and Campaign Logos” had work from an illustrator Ward Sutton who judged the logos of the 2008 presidential as less than par. He criticizes the type choice from font size to location. He summed up all the candidates logos as bad and under thought. However i found some articles that commented on Barack Obama 08′s logo design. The creators of the logo a Chicago-based Sender LLC and mo/de have created a set of logos and banners that is a good example of good graphic ideas in the presidential race. The company says that they looked at the ‘o’ of his name and thought of a rising sun or a new day. The logo can be read in several different ways. Maybe its a rising sun over a field, or it could be a highway or road with a zero above it. The logo is also used in several clever ways for different messages. Each specialized logo banner sends a massage to the target audience in several interesting ways. The creative backgrounds and use of different aspects of typography help to show the intended audience. A lot of time and effort went into the modifications and clever designing that has been integrated into these logo banners. Logos for the banners and the states are all creative solutions to the problem of incompusing a lot of different aspects of Americans while still using the identifiable Obama logo.
