Is printed material still relevant in today’s culture, or will it grow into obscurity as the decades goes on? When is the last time you read a newspaper or magazine? The internet and new media has made exponential progress during the last decade. Now it is rare for people to look for news on the newspaper when you can simply look it up on your IPhone while taking the metro to work. In this digital age it becomes easier to use a tablet rather than ink and paint.
As artists and designers it is our duty to study in traditional arts, but the world still expect us to know how to use Photoshop, Final Cut, et cetera. It is more cost effective to create covers digitally rather than spending hundreds of dollars on paint and ink. Rather than making designs for magazines, designers make decisions on the layout of a website.
I am not saying print media will disappear; it will just fall to the wayside. I will always prefer the feel of a book in my hand, but younger generations may feel differently.
