Graphic Designers clearly have a significant ability to influence people and to shape culture. In fact, I wrote my entire paper about this for the third project. With this potential for influence and power comes a significant responsibility to use this for good. Hyperakt, a design studio in Brooklyn, NY is seeking to do just this. Their tagline is “meaningful design for the common good.” They state that “Hyperakt works with clients who fight for justice, celebrate culture and diversity, spread knowledge and engage in social entrepreneurship.”
This type of conviction and desire to do good is refreshing and respectable. A great example of this type of work is what the identity system Hperakt created for “Voices of Youth“—a UNICEF initiative aimed at getting young people involved in social justice issues around the world.
