The Importance of Good Photography

Although most of us are graphic designers, it is extremely important that we recognize good photography when we see it. Most of what we design has to either work well with photography or include photographs in some way. Although the type might be treated well and the color choices are appropriate, if the pictures are not good, good design aspects might be overlooked completely. One great photographer whose work I greatly admire is Joey Lawrence. He is a 23 year old Canadian photographer who is completely self taught. Today, he travels around the world, working for National Geographic.  His work, which is extremely dramatic, relies on the lighting to really make it outstanding. He not only utilizes the natural lighting of his environment, but he includes artificial lighting, such as lamps and flashes, as well. Most of his work consists of people in their natural environments. He brings his photographs into photoshop and uses masks and color levels to really enhance the images content. The result is truly amazing.

I love photography that shows culture and character. His photography is so crisp and clear. The color of the photographs are so rich. I personally like “SABRIDA SHING;” the woman’s facial feature tells a story, the texture of her dreadlocks stand out from the image.

I love this! I definitely agree that artists should respect and acknowledge mediums outside of their own. Even though I am not a graphic designer, I can still enjoy and respect good design.
