Cell Phone Apps & Designs

The article (3 Design Essentials For Early Adopters by Seth Priebatsch) drew me in mainly because of its title and pictures. Who am I kidding, it was definitely because of the pictures. The article’s main subject was about adopting three design essentials when creating a new application for smart phones. Keeping it simple, creating a memorable experience, and helping users “get it” right away (are the three essentials). The article also stresses the importance of an application’s design and compares it directly to the engineering process, and it’s importance. The engineers and designers who created Color app, LevelUp, and SCVNGR have taken these design essentials into strong consideration, therefore producing beautiful, easy to use, and intuitive applications.

Reading this made me realize how much effort and work goes into making a single application. Also, how design really makes or breaks your work, whatever it may be. You’d think I’d know that by now since I’ve been working at T-Mobile for the past year and a half.

With being a user of a smartphone, apps definitely need to be easy to use and simple. These three essentials are actually all really important.
