100 Artists – Shea Hembrey

I watched a TED Talk last night and I was left amazed. Shea Hembrey is a very complex person; Abstract I’d say. He has worked hard over two years to create such a large and diverse project. Two very great things have been accomplished by Hembrey:

1. He created 100+ different styled art pieces and works

2. He made up and learned the different backgrounds and lifestyles of these made up artists

As he began to introduce his project and how he was going to tackle it, I was thinking to myself that there’s no way in hell he’s going to get a whole show put together in two years featuring 100 artists. I was so wrong. It took him two years to create everything and that’s exactly what he did.

He used his mother, father, and relatives to take part as some of the made up artists. He gave them unique names and styles, each specific to every artist. I personally don’t know what is more amazing, the way he came up with 100 artists and knew so much about them, or all the different styled work he produced within those two years. The way he introduced these artists seemed as if he knew them on a personal level. All this was HIS work. It’s crazy.

That is the link to the TED Talk. It’s 16 minutes and change but it’s a really interesting video to watch. Enjoy!

This was one of my favorite Ted talks. It was interesting to me that since each work was so different from the others I found myself forgetting that they were all done by one person.
