Typographic Maps

Typographic Maps

I found maps of cities made entirely out of type by Axis Maps.  The street, water, highways; all made out of words. The way that the type is handled in these posters is nothing short of impressive. They have them up for sale sale on their site and quite frankly my wall needs one of these.

I think these maps are very creative. I love the typography use throughout the whole image. Very effective and eye catching!

I feel like these are a COMPLETE rip off of Paula Scher’s paintings of maps. She does the same exact thing! The main difference of course is that she spends months, the maps are huge, and its all hand done. Now these maps are cool, I would want one, and are definitely cheaper than getting one of her master pieces, but I’m not sure how I feel about their similarity. Maybe its a tribute and she should be flattered? Its not like she has a monopoly on maps made of words, and she is probably not the first one to do it. This is another one of those ethical questions…

exactly what bret said.i hope the artist intended to pay tribute to Paula’s typographic maps because they are executed in a much more organized and interesting fashion then these are. I love the concept of a typographic map, i mean who really reads maps(now a days) anyways <<hahah bret
