Define Typography Plz

ty⋅pog⋅ra⋅phy[tahy-pog-ruh-fee]

–noun
1.) the art or process of printing with type.

Stemming from recent bouts of boredom, I have always found myself doodling. Not the regular kind of doodle, but oddly to say, typographical. It reminds me of the days of High School where some of my female friends would make signs for each other, writing their name in some fancy shmancy way for them to mount on the wall of their room.

I always thought it was kind of silly, but now I find myself doing it too.

The definition of typography is the “art” or process of printing with type. In reading the definition, the idea of typography being an art had appealed to me. With art, comes creativity. In the past, I would hesitate to believe type could be used as a part of art; but in finding inspiration from design, I’m starting to see how artistic typography can be.

The creativity of manipulating type can make or break a piece of design, an important aspect that some may neglect to take into consideration. Those letters that we print, are simply lines, that are already drawn for us. It is just up to us as a designer to creatively manipulate them, as we do with a clients ideas to create a beautiful design.

After taking a more liberal approach to typography, I have begun to experiment. I advocate creativity in any way possible. The more creativity that you spew out, the more it becomes an art. The more it becomes an art, the more it becomes your design. The more it becomes your design, the more unique become.
